Summer Camp Says Goodbye to a Treasure ... and Rich Cohen, Too

The Community Summer Program's most familiar faces are retiring from a camp they have long loved.

Friday is the last day of the Community Summer Program, and as the youngest campers carry away their treasures of the past two weeks, mosaics and masks and new friendships, they’ll also be saying goodbye to Treasure, the friendliest of the Yellowshirts who helps parents and children find each other at the end of the day.  They’ll be saying goodbye to Rich Cohen, too, the program’s co-coordinator for the past 24 years. The Cohens are retiring from the summer camp they have nurtured and watched grow since they were teachers handing off an infant (they have four grown children now with kids of their own) when Treasure taught cardboard carpentry in the mornings and Rich science enrichment in the afternoons. My daughter has been going to SOMA Adult Kids Camp for years and loves it. Thanks to Treasure's kind and reassuring nature and Rich's generous and thoughtful style, the camp is truly inspirational with creative and terrific talent leading each class option. They will be sorely missed.   more ›
