South Orange Centenarian Visits Montclair Art Museum

A South Orange resident visited Montclair's museum this week.

An 1913 exhibit now at the Montclair Art Museum recently received a visit from a South Orange resident who was born around the time of its original opening.  Ethel Rosenfeld was born in New York City on Feb. 20, 1913, just three days after the International Exhibition of Modern Art, better known as the Armory Show, opened at the 69th Regiment Armory Building.  That same exhibit is now at the Montclair Art Museum, titled The New Spirit: American Art in the Armory Show, 1913. She visited the Montclair Art Museum this week with her daughter and met with Chief Curator Gail Stavitsky. The museum presented Rosenfeld with a commemorative 100th birthday present.

It hasn't moved forward because the owner can't raise the necessary capital. The owner is Saiyd Nagim. He is a well-known to the Village. I believe he owns 35 properties in South Orange. South Orange Declares State of Emergency

The Baird Center at 5 Mead Street will be made available as a shelter tonight and tomorrow as needed.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, South Orange is under a state of emergency.  From the Village: Friday, February 8th 2013 at 2pm As of Friday afternoon at 2pm, a State of Emergency exists in South Orange, and a State of Snow Emergency exists county-wide in Essex County. Because of the impending snowfall and high winds Friday afternoon into Saturday, on-street parking is prohibited, and we ask that residents not travel on the roads unless absolutely necessary or an emergency. This will allow emergency vehicles and snow removal crews to be able to perform their jobs most effectively. South Orange Officials Approve Gun Control Resolution

Monday's meeting saw support of a gun control resolution for South Orange

Short Hills gets a new shoe store for kids, thanks to Cataldo Urso of South Orange

Just in time for the start of school, there is a store opening that will help make kids, parents and children's feet happy. At the end of August, a South Orange resident, Cataldo Urso, who said he's always said he's dreamed of owning his own business, opened the doors to his own store, Happy Feet, at 514 Millburn Ave. in Short Hills. "I wanted a business that could set an example for children," Urso said. "I wanted to show them that you could do what you want to do." Cryan's Ale House Celebrates 30th Anniversary

South Orange landmark will feature live music, food and drink specials at Friday festivities.

It’s been the home of St. Patrick’s Day parties, political gatherings, and funeral repasts. Cryan’s Beef and Ale House – a homey Irish pub on South Orange’s 1st Street – will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Friday. If the walls could talk, they would tell stories of family-friendly dining, gatherings of Seton Hall University students, and some eclectic happenings from over the years.
