interACT Theatre Presents The Full Monty

Two weekends at The Baird for the fun music and story of men who rebound when stripped of their pride and jobs.

Six unemployed steelworkers try to make some quick cash by taking off their clothes in The Full Monty being performed at The Baird Theatre in South Orange. Nicholas Clarey directs this popular musical for interACT Theatre Productions. Performances are May 10-May 12 and May 17-May 19 (7:30 p.m. Friday/Saturday nights; 2 p.m. Saturday/Sunday matinees). Stripped of their pride and livelihoods, the men’s unlikely new job strengthens their self-esteem and friendship in this musical version of the Academy Award-nominated 1997 film. Theatre Alive at The Baird

interACT brings a new act to community theatre.

The third floor of the Baird Center is alive with the sound – well, of set building, kids performing, actors rehearsing their lines. The space is getting ready for its next act, the addition of interACT Theatre Productions as the theatre in residence in an already vibrant arts community. “The Baird theatre is a versatile, intimate space which will allow us to further our mission of bringing theatre to the community, and the community to the theatre,” said Elena Svitavsky President of interACT Theatre Productions. Curtain Opens on interACT Summer Camp

Theatre company offers summer drama program for kids.

For children with a flair for the dramatic, interACT Theatre Productions is offering a one-week summer camp July 29-August 2 at the Baird Theatre in South Orange. Children entering Grades 2-6 will learn acting, playwriting and other fundamental theatre skills under the direction of Lisa Hershey, a teaching artist for New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Updated: If the snow kept you indoors, there's still a chance to audition. Here are the new dates: Feb 11, 13 6:30pm-9:00pm  and Feb 16 1:00pm-4:00pm   Auditions will be February 6-February 9 for interACT Theatre Production’s presentation of The Full Monty. The musical centers around a group of unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo, New York, who come up with a bold way to make some quick cash after seeing how much their wives enjoy watching male strippers during their "Girls' Night Out." The book is by Terrence McNally, with music and lyrics by David Yazbek. Nicholas J. Clarey, interACT’s artistic director, will direct this production. Act now! Tickets are going fast. After the first weekend's show sold out, another weekend was added. Those tickets are selling briskly. Charlotte’s Web, the beloved children's classic, is being presented by interACT Theatre Productions at The Baird in South Orange with a cast featuring nearly 50 young performers from the region. Auditions will be January 29 and January 30 for interACT Theatre Production’s presentation of Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite. One of Neil Simon's most popular and celebrated plays, Plaza Suite details the misadventures of three very different couples facing crucial moments in their respective lives with hilarious consequences -- all set in the same room in New York's world-famous Plaza Hotel. Christine Gaden will direct this non-equity production. Audition will be 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 and Wednesday, January 30 at the Baird Theatre, 5 Mead Street, South Orange. interACT Theatre Productions has moved into its new home at The Baird in South Orange, where auditions will take place in early 2013 for its next two mainstage productions, Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite and The Full Monty. interACT, now in its fourth season, presents inclusive and accessible community theatre. This fall, it presented Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Salem Witch Hunt Comes to Maplewood

interACT Theatre Productions presents The Crucible this weekend at Burgdorff.

The Crucible, Arthur Miller's well-known Colonial “witch hunt,” is being peformed this weekend at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood. Part history lesson, allegory, and warning, it opened Friday night with performances by a fine cast of talented actors from the community. Indeed, which of your neighbors will be crying, "Witch?" The Crucible provides a harrowing glimpse of the living nightmare of the 17th-century Salem Witch Trials (Walter Zimmerman plays Dep. Gov.
