Auditions for Charlotte's Web will be held Tuesday, October 23 and Wednesday, October 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Baird Theater in South Orange. Callbacks will be Saturday, October 27 at 1 p.m. There are roles for all the enchanting characters of this children’s classic: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be "a true friend and a good writer." Salem witch hunts come to Burgdorff in The Crucible by interACT.
Susan Holtz and Suz Stone of Maplewood can be seen in The Crucible, Arthur Miller's well-known Colonial “witch hunt,” when it plays at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood over two weekends in October. It is being presented by interACT Theatre Productions. The Crucible provides a harrowing glimpse of the living nightmare of the 17th-century Salem Witch Trials. An extended-run Fright Night comes to Maplewood this Halloween when The Crucible, Arthur Miller's well-known Colonial “witch hunt,” plays at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts over two weekends in October. "This is a timeless piece of literature and theatre,” said Nicholas J. Clarey, Artistic Director of interACT Theatre Productions, which will present performances Oct. 12-Oct. 14 and Oct. 19-Oct. 21. “It depicts what is tempting for us to view as a very dark and tragic time in our history, something which we feel we are freed from, having recognized the hysteria that caused the deaths of far too many,” Clarey said. Broadway actor Eddie Korbich hosted performances this weekend by interACT Theatre Productions at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts. The young Essex County theatre company was raising funds for their upcoming season, three main stage productions, beginning with The Crucible, as well as a children’s theatre show. A host of local businesses helped out to support the arts.
