Leonard: I think you're probably right. I took out the exit numbers from the story. So now it's less specific, but probably more accurate. Thanks!

Hey Scott. Sorry to hear about the inconvenience. Wish you had gotten that photo, though. On a whole other note, if anyone is interested in a really good profile of the former Delaware Senator, check out this 2010 profile from the Atlantic. It's long, but worth it. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2010/10/the-salesman/8226/

Bart: It would be impossible for me to do that under our current system. In general, it's impossible to require people to use their full, real names on any website. Also, mostly, I don't have a problem with it. Like if Seymour Butts or Amanda Hugginkis register on the site, I think that's funny (it's also appropriate for Springfield, as any regular at Moe's will tell you). Certainly, it would be better if someone making a serious argument used their real name. But anonymous commenting is such a common practice on the internet that it would be like challenging the Atlantic ocean to a fistfight.
The problem is more an issue of abusive speech than anonymous speech. The comments I deleted contained personal insults. They also cited facts and presented valid points of view. I was on the fence about deleting them, but decided I had to because of the insults.
For the record: Pete Davis definitely deserves credit for improving the force, as does Rich Rosell, John Cook, the members of the police force and the Committee members who served in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Nonetheless, people are entitled to their opinions about him. I am cool with people expressing those opinions as long as they don't do it in an insulting way.

ReplyHey guys
I deleted a couple of comments for containing personal attacks. Passion is cool, but the tone needs to be civil. Sorry to be a buzzkill. -AB
