  first graders usually aren't doing calculus; that comes much later, and never at all for too many of our kids.

  I direct people to my blog about the bulletin board on this site to let them judge for themselves whether it is "rather typical." I stand by it as an example of excellence, and it seems to me that Marina is giving short shrift to that teacher's talent and dedication. http://maplewood.patch.com/blog_posts/a-great-bulletin-board-no-apologies
