Action by Quick-Thinking Carjacking Victim Leads to Arrest

Woman rams sheriff deputy's car to alert him to crime.

An alert 21-year-old woman thought fast when her car was carjacked Saturday around 2 p.m. in South Orange and she was forced by the carjacker to drive to Newark.

While driving through Newark, the woman saw an Essex County sheriff’s vehicle and got a sheriff’s officer’s attention – by ramming the vehicle with her car, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and South Orange Police Chief James Chelel.

Following the crash, the suspect ran from the carjacked car and the officer pursued him through Vailsburg Park before losing sight of him.

The county Homicide Task Force and South Orange police continued investigating the incident and within four hours arrested Isaiah Greene, 22 of Newark.
